Shade Net Price Explained: What Actually Changes the Cost You Pay?

Shade Net Price Explained: What Actually Changes the Cost You Pay?

Shade net price can vary significantly even when two quotations appear to describe a similar product. The reason is simple: the final cost is influenced by more than one specification. Raw material quality, UV stabilization, GSM, yarn construction, shade percentage, colour, roll dimensions, finishing, order quantity, packing and freight can all affect what you finally pay.

For a meaningful comparison, buyers should compare the same specification on the same commercial basis rather than judging only the headline rate. This guide explains the main factors behind shade net pricing without relying on temporary market-price figures.

Why Shade Net Prices Vary

A shade net quotation combines product specifications with manufacturing and commercial requirements. Two nets may both be described as green agricultural shade net, yet differ in construction type, GSM, shade factor, UV package, width, roll length, edge finishing or packing.

That is why the lowest quoted rate is not automatically the lowest total cost. The better comparison is whether each supplier is quoting the same product specification, quantity and delivery basis.

Raw Material and UV Stabilization

The polymer formulation is one of the important cost drivers in outdoor shade net. Material quality, colour masterbatch and the UV-stabilizer package all influence formulation cost.

UV stabilization is especially relevant because shade net is continuously exposed to sunlight during outdoor use. Buyers should therefore compare not only whether a product is described as UV stabilized, but also whether the supplier provides a clear product specification or other supporting quality information.

GSM and Yarn Construction

GSM describes the mass of material per square metre. In general, a design using more material can affect manufacturing cost, but GSM should not be treated as a direct measure of shade percentage or as a universal measure of quality.

Construction also matters. Tape yarn, monofilament yarn and combined Mono-Tape constructions use different yarn forms and knitting designs. Two products with similar shade percentages can therefore have different GSM values, structures and prices.

Shade Percentage

Shade percentage describes the intended level of shading or light reduction. It is a different specification from GSM.

Different shade percentages may require different knitting constructions, yarn arrangements or material usage. Buyers should therefore compare the quoted shade percentage separately from GSM rather than assuming one automatically determines the other.

Colour and Product Variation

Green is widely used, but shade nets are also produced in white, black and other colours for different applications and market requirements. Colour formulation, pigments, production runs and special combinations can influence manufacturing complexity and cost.

Colour alone should not be used to judge price. It must be compared together with shade percentage, GSM, construction type and UV stabilization.

Width, Roll Length and Order Quantity

Roll dimensions affect production planning, handling and the total area supplied. When comparing shade net price per metre, first confirm the width because one running metre of a wider roll contains more square metres of material.

Order quantity also matters. Larger production runs may reduce setup, colour-change and packing costs per unit, while custom widths, smaller quantities or special specifications can require additional handling.

Packing, Freight and Destination

The factory price and the delivered price are not always the same. Packing method, roll volume, transport distance, taxes and destination can materially change the final landed cost.

For export orders, the quotation should clearly state the commercial basis and delivery terms. For domestic orders, buyers should confirm whether freight, taxes and unloading are included or charged separately.

How to Request a Comparable Quote

The easiest way to compare suppliers fairly is to send every supplier the same requirement. A practical request should include:

  • Application or intended use
  • Required shade percentage
  • Preferred construction type, if already decided
  • Required GSM or product specification, where applicable
  • Colour
  • Roll width and length
  • Total quantity or area
  • Required finishing or reinforced edges
  • Packing requirements
  • Delivery location

Once these details are standardized, compare not only the unit rate but also specification consistency, UV stabilization, finishing, packing, delivery terms and supplier reliability.

A useful shade net price comparison answers one question: Are all suppliers actually quoting the same product and the same delivered requirement? When that is clear, the price becomes much easier to evaluate.
